Our shop started as a repair workshop in the garage at our home in Narrawallee but we quickly outgrew the space and moved up to the Joinery premises in Mollymook (now the new nursing home).

It was only meant to be a temporary arrangement, but in the end the Smith family (who owned the Joinery) generously let us stay for 14 years! Eventually when the property was sold and our little shop faced demolition the hunt was on for a new home for Hendo’s Tools and Hire.

Luckily we found our current premises (opposite the Ex Servos Club) and spent the next 6 weekends painting, knocking walls out, building racks, cleaning and getting ready for the move. At first the new shop seemed enormous and it looked like we would have to close some of the rooms off so it didn’t seem so empty. At the time it was a little intimidating, but in reality it was an opportunity for growth. And grow we did! Since moving here we have expanded our fastenings range, increased power tool brands, started making wire balustrading and taken a massive leap into the HIRE industry. Four years later our shop, the 2 shipping containers out the back and the hire yard out the front are bursting at the seams!

Hendo (Andrew Henderson)

After a 12 month trip around Australia in 1998, my wife Dee and I came back to Sydney with no jobs. I was lucky enough to get a casual job with a power tool repairer and spent the next 2 years working with and learning from him until we moved down to Ulladulla in 2000. I am a welder by trade but had flicked around between various jobs until finally working out what I wanted to do.

I love using power tools, talking to people about power tools and find it very satisfying to be able to fix power tools! Our entry into the hire industry has been exciting yet challenging as we expand our range of equipment and adapt our business to industry standards.
